About This Script

Creates a specification/redline document from your artwork by measuring and annotating distances, sizes, and spacing between elements. The script generates a separate overlay layer with dimension lines, spacing measurements, color values, and font specifications for each element. Output can be exported as PDF or PNG for design handoff to developers. Includes options for measurement units (px, pt, mm, in), annotation style (minimal, detailed, developer-focused), and color coding by element type. Streamlines the design-to-development workflow without needing third-party tools like Zeplin.

How to Install

Method 1 — Run directly

  1. Download the .jsx file
  2. Open Illustrator
  3. Go to File > Scripts > Other Script...
  4. Select the downloaded .jsx file
  5. The script runs immediately

Method 2 — Install permanently

  1. Copy the .jsx file to the Scripts folder:
  2. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version]\Presets\en_US\Scripts\
  3. Restart Illustrator
  4. Find the script under File > Scripts > Smart Guides Export
